Art for art’s sake

We went looking at art today. Some was from iconic Australian painters like Tom Roberts, Aurthur Streeton, Frederick McCubbin, Sidney Nolan & Russell Drysdale. It’s at Federation Square in Melbourne & admission is free.

Some was iconic Italian art!

I tried to interest Mrs Tarsnakes in buying this as an investment in an Italian masterpiece – to be mounted in our lounge room at home. But alas ………………….

They say that old habits die hard, she did have to feel what the throttle response felt like though!

  1. Jules ,
I especially like the shot of you inspecting ” The Ramming of the Shears ” by Tom Roberts ,and you best keep Mrs Tarsnakes out of bike shops for the Devil find work for idle hands

    • Steve, it’s amazing, I grew up looking at those paintings in books and thought how wonderful they were. Since then I’ve seen first hand the paintings by the European masters, Van Gough, Rembrant et al, yet I still think that these Aussie paintings are masterful and wonderful. The fact that they are so accessible is a real bonus.

As for the comment re Mrs tarsnakes and bike shops – you make that sound like a bad thing!

      Cheers Jules.

  2. Hi Jules, great site very interesting. Thought i would drop u a line as i have seen the light and joined the zx14 club like you and Bill R. My v strom (traded in) will not be missed at all. New ride is an 06 model in candy electric blue with low kms & is stock. When i rode Bills over x mas break, it was love at first ride. Say hi to Marty, & i hope we can all catch up soon. Cheers Phil.

    • G’day Phil. Congratulations on the new bike. Bill emailed me last week and asked me to guess who was getting a ZX14 on Saturday – my reply “Lucky Phil”. They really are a great bike and I don’t know why there are not more of them on the road. Like you, I rode Bill’s and just had to have one. Marty’s the same and would love to get the new model. Mine’s a 2010 model, that I bought as superseded a year ago next Monday. Will have done 10K for the year.

It would be great to catch Phil, will talk to Bill as well and see what we can do.

      Cheers Jules.
